Just came back from a three week holiday in Brazil and what a trip! It is an amazing country with lots to see and lots to do. The first five days were spent in Rio experiencing Copacabana and Ipanema,
seeing the Sugarloaf,
Botanical Gardens, and hang-gliding. From Rio we went to Foz do Iguacu and saw the waterfalls - they were astonishing! I still have problems comprehending the vast volume of water thundering through the falls.
Brasilia was the next stop after a few relaxing days in Foz do Iguacu. Most travelers skip Brasilia because it doesn't have much to offer, but one of my best friends was getting married there, so I had little choice :-)
Actually it turned out to be quite an interesting city to visit. The wedding was of course a great party!
From Brasilia it was back to the East coast - Salvador. We spent a day in the beach town of Praia do Forte north of Salvador, and two days in Salvador just before Carneval kick-off. Lots of atmosphere and rhythm there. We went to an Olodum concert and saw a terrific folklore dance show at a local theater.
The next and final stop on our trip was Boipeba - an island south of Salvador. Lovely white beaches with palms and warm water. This is where we celebrated Carneval.
Finally we had an exhausting 48-hour trip home arriving this morning at 11 am.
