I’m back from the US, and we had an absolutely amazing trip
We had some good luck already on the first day. Arriving late at the airport, Emilie and I didn’t get seats next to each other, so we asked at the gate, whether that could be arranged. It turned out they had overbooked the flight, so we voluteered to wait for 5 hours at Kastrup. Aren’t we just nice? Well, ok, the truth is they offered us $400 cash each – not a hard choice for a couple of poor students! In addition to the USDs they upgraded us, so we got to fly business class from Copenhagen to Seattle. Ahh, isn’t that just the life! The down side was that we didn’t get our luggage on arrival at LA. It wasn’t too bad, and the $400 made the 24 hour wait for the luggage tolerable The next day we got our car from AVIS – a red Ford Mustang convertible.
From LA we drove to Palm Springs – very very hot! – where we went hiking on a mountain
and found a lot of windmills
After a few days there we drove through a couple of national parks on the way to the coast.
We liked San Diego a lot better than LA, which wasn’t really all that nice, and had a trip to Sea World. Although it is a family park, there are some spectacular shows. Quite impressive seeing whales, dolphin, and killer whales doing backflips!
From San Diego we decided on a few days in Mexico, so we parked the car, packed a back, and jumped on bus in Tijuana that took us to San Felipe on the Baja California peninsula. It was nice to sample Mexico again and to swin in the Gulf of California (the water was almost too warm) On the way home we came across this little boat – crazy mexicans!
When we came back to the US we went straight to Laguna Niguel to visit Peter (a friend from RHK). We had a couple of great days there, and Pete took us surfing, into the batting cages, and generally made sure we had a good time. We stayed with his family, so a big thanks to them for letting us stay there!
After leaving Laguna Niguel, we headed north and drove up the coast along the old 101. They have some beautiful stretches of coastline up there. We ended up in San Francisco after a few days. Another nice place, but alas – the real world beckons. I flew home …
